Bed of Ivy Cat Nap

6"x8" oil on linen mounted on archival panel

I have some paintings "in the vault" in my studio, that still need a home - perhaps yours??

Cats can find a comfy spot any place they please. During this busy holiday season, I'm feeling like I could use a little cat nap myself! You might be wanting to indulge in one, too! Whew!

In Summers' Gold (unfinished)

16"x16" oil on stretched linen canvas

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe."
- Anatole France

Honestly, I have been painting now & then, but not quite making it to the computer to blog a single thought about it. And the funny thing is, it seems I get quite introspective about my work in December. December brings the culmination of a year of work, and I always take a broad look at how things have developed over the past year AND consider what I'd like to achieve in the coming year. The studies and workshops that I've completed add to the sorting out. I find the best way to put this new knowledge to use is to just keep painting. This piece will be my bridge to the new year. I'll be spending time in the company of lots of relatives, and I hope to finish wrapping, packing, preparing, etc. for the holidays in the next few days! So, it seems I'm leaving you with a 'cliff-hanger', an un-finished painting, which you'll get to see the end result in the new year!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to you, and my best wishes for health and happiness in the New Year!!

Thinking Out Loud - Cat on a Cup

4"x4" oil on canvas mounted on board

"As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat."
- Ellen Perry Berkeley

Today's little painting, a 4"x4" sketch, which I'm calling, "Thinking Out Loud" is actually like 'thinking out loud' in paint - sort of the next step beyond ink & paper sketchbooks for me. It's a small section of a larger commission and I'm trying a combination of brushwork & palette knife to see how I like it before I proceed on with the larger painting.

Yesterday, after I painted this on Monday, we lost power for several hours during a howling wind storm! Luckily I had cleaned up my paint brushes already. And luckily I had not started chopping up anything to cook yet for dinner (just had it all set out). So back it went, it's on the menu for dinner tonight!

But even with the stormy afternoon/evening, I got lots done in the morning, a load of paintings varnished, a new shipment of frames in to get ready for an up-coming show....and a delightful studio visit this morning (Tuesday, as I write this), thanks Jane & Wendy!

Welcome to my latest new subscribers! I do hope you enjoy the paintings, photos & stories! I always love hearing comments from my readers!!

Bed Of Ivy Cat Nap

6"x8" oil on Belgian linen on archival panel

“If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what happens if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?”

- Stephen Wright

How is it that cats are so smart? (or at least the ones I've known?). They always have the knack for finding a great spot for a nap, even on a hot summer day, like this one, on a cushy bed of ivy, in a nice shady spot. Would I get better sleep if I had a "cat detection device" to point out the best napping places?
