This summer was wonderful with all the fantastic blossoms.  This is our fourth year in our garden and things are really starting to look lush! The hydrangeas are some of my favorites- but this summer I started making arrangements out of them and adding other things, like astilbe, sweet peas, and Lady's Mantle- which is sort of a lemony- green that makes those purply- blues just POP! (Can you tell I'm missing summer?).

I spend a lot of time painting flowers from my garden, (or paintings of my garden...). Here's a lovely bouquet of cut flowers, in a very cool pottery vase from a friend! Hope it brings you a bit of "Sunshine & Happiness".

I'm continuing the holiday sale with some of these older works. In the meantime, I'm working on a larger 30"x40" landscape based on some of my recent plein air paintings over at Barn Island! 

Stay tuned, I'll have some more of those cute little ACEO florals again, too!

I certainly enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday, but it's also nice to be back in my studio.  I'm looking forward to Christmas and the New Year!

One of my favorite views is right here- my friend's cottage in Ireland. There are always plants, herbs,  flowers and vines in the garden of her stone cottage.  Lace at the windows, and a brilliant blue door graced the front, a very welcoming place!

Yesterday, I had the wonderful opportunity to complete a commission for a "few more of these hydrangeas". I tickled pink- because I just LOVE these flowers! Can you tell I'm missing summer and having all these blossoms in my yard? Well, "Yes Virginia, there IS a Santa Claus....AND you can have flowers all winter long!"  That's the joy of having art- that wonderful reminder that winter won't last forever, and that wonderful sense of the joy of flowers is hard to resist! 

The other pieces that I completed for the commission were these 2 below, both hydrangeas, some of the blue variety in our yard, as well as Limelight hydrangeas (cuttings from my neighbor)

While I had all the cut flowers on the back patio table, I did end up second guessing how I wanted to do a lot of these arrangements.   Continuing with this series of floral ACEOs, I had lots more zinnias to paint & a spare Montauk daisy as well!  Right before our first predicted frost, I spent the day cutting all the blossoms I thought I could get painted, filled every vase & container I had! If you've been following along for the last few days, you're beginning to see a trend here....the third one of my ACEO floral series - Zinnias! We had a bumper crop of them this year. The best thing is, the more you cut, the more blossoms they keep putting out. We had several different varieties, but one that I particularly loved had this deep burgundy maroon color. Of course mixing the color varieties in a bouquet is great fun, too!

Here it is, the second one in my series of floral ACEOs painted from life! These little oil paintings were quite fun to create.  I began this little series in September before the first frost up here in CT, so I was able to bring in lots of nice cuttings from the garden!  I'm usually not great at keeping a secret for very long at all - I wanted to bring this series out in time for Christmas and holiday gift shopping.  Hey, they make nice little hostess gifts for some one even at Thanksgiving! If you bring your hostess live flowers, she's got to stop cooking and put those things in water right away (which can be a problem if you're in a tight cooking schedule in the kitchen).  Give your hostess a painting of flowers - she can be looking at it while she's cooking, doesn't have to stop & get a vase....AND - they NEVER DIE!! woohoo- and that makes you a wonderful guest!

Tidal Creek, (Plein Air 757)

This is the second painting I did during the Plein Air 757 event.  This view is over in Portsmouth, VA. I was at a friends house that lives along a tidal creek.  The view is incredible all through out the day. Currently at the Charles H. Taylor Arts Center, in Hampton, VA.

This was the first painting I did Thursday morning on Virginia Beach (behind the Windham Hotel, close to 55th Street)....before the big storm came blowing through! What a gorgeous morning it was, the "calm before the storm".  I'm tickled pink to have won a Merit Award for this painting at the opening reception of PleinAir 757.  

The show is a traveling one, moving through several different venues in the '757' area code! Tonight is the second show opening over in Hampton! Here are the details:
