Garden Journal Sketchbook - slowly but surely!

Things are pretty slow this year in the garden.  I've been keeping a garden journal for the last couple years, and these little green nubs (as seen on Good Friday -  April 3rd of this year) are our daffodils! Last year on Good Friday, they were already up and opened, like so:
and yes, last year Good Friday fell on the 18th... which is tomorrow. They are still not ready to open! They're up...and I can see the  bloom heads waiting...just waiting for that right time to pop open! Well, I'm gonna just quit looking. In fact I'm going down to DC this weekend to visit daughters and see cherry blossoms! Hopefully when I get back home the daffs will be in bloom. Hubby might even get to see them before me! If they pop open while I'm gone, I'm sure he'll send me a photo!

So, I know what I'll probably be painting next week!!

Sure Sign It's Spring

8"x6" oil on linen mounted on panel

These are the first things to bloom in our year when Spring decides to show up! Two weeks ago they were bobbing their lovely blossoms around reminding me of the day I painted this. It's still one of my favorite paintings (and looks lovely framed in gold by the way)!

Rush Of Spring

8"x8" oil on linen mounted on archival panel

"The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring." -Bern Williams

I'm always so happy to get outside to paint on a sunny day in Spring, even if there's still a bit of chill in the air. We have a wonderful stand of daffodils that I gathered these from, creamy white with showy yellow centers! They should be named HOPE, as they mark the end of winter for me here in Connecticut. Pushing things a bit toward the expressionistic on this one, trying to incorporate that feel of excitement when the air is a bit warmer and sunnier than the day before, yet there's still a bite of cold in the breeze. Things are warming up!
