Sunset Marsh, Eastern Shore

I have some paintings "in the vault" in my studio, that still need a home - perhaps yours??

One summer I was on a painting trip down to Easton, MD. This was a marshy area not too far outside of town where  some artist friends & I stopped to paint the sunset! Man! does the sun every move FAST when you're trying to paint it! But it's always worth the effort to paint from life- all the reflections in the water, that fading golden light & memories of the dusk of that day stay with you when you paint it while you watch it!

Cats can find a comfy spot any place they please. During this busy holiday season, I'm feeling like I could use a little cat nap myself! You might be wanting to indulge in one, too! Whew!

Gray Day, Boats At Inis Mor

5"x7" oil on archival panel

This is one from my Ireland series, after the many trips over to Valentia Island to visit my friend Barbara.  She runs a wonderful artist's retreat.  We took a side trip up to the Aran Islands - what an amazing place.  I'm thinking I'm overdue for another trip over!!  I have just a few works left from this series - did you miss out the first time around? This one could be yours!

Refresh, Renew & Simplify Floral Bouquet

6"x6" oil on archival panel

I have some paintings "in the vault" in my studio, that still need a home - perhaps yours??

I'm still enjoying sharing some of these older small paintings at some frankly wonderful price opportunities during the holiday season. I haven't been blogging all of them, so in case you've missed some, here's another chance to catch the 'bidding fever fun'!

I spend a lot of time painting flowers from my garden If you've followed my work for any length of time, you'll see this container in many of my floral paintings! I do especially love blue and white pottery and porcelain pieces. Cutting any blossoms I've got in the yard makes for a great day of painting - that's just another reason I love summer so much up here in CT.  As for the title.....isn't that always a great way to start off the year? Each of these little paintings has such wonderful texture from painting with a palette knife - it truly allows the medium of oil paint to show some of its best qualities!

Cove, Marsh Morning CT Coastal Landscape

8"x10" oil on linen mounted on archival panel
I have some paintings "in the vault" in my studio, that still need a home - perhaps yours??

I do hope that you've been enjoying the tiny ACEOs and my older works 'from the vault'.  December usually ends up being a very busy month, squeezing painting time down to a minimum. I've got the beginnings of Christmas shopping done so that 'to do list' is getting shorter.

Hoping this odd fluke of warmer weather holds out for me to get back outside painting a few more times. Through most of the year, I spend my time outdoors painting (en plein air).  I grew up in the south, but have lived in CT off and on for about a dozen years now. I'm dedicated to spending as much time as I can getting to know my 'newfound' home by going out and painting it. There's nothing like being out in the open air, with nature surrounding you....in all that stillness, there is a lot going on!

Geranium Dance Floral ACEO Floral Oil Painting

3.5"x2.5" oil on fine canvas board

This pot of geraniums has been one of my favorites. I've been able to 'overwinter' it in my garage for a couple of winters now. As long as I can keep it from freezing, I know I'll have some great blooms next summer! It is one of the most forgiving, yet extremely cheery plants on my summer deck!

For those of you not familiar with the acronym ACEO, it stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals.  The miniature paintings are the size of a baseball trading card, 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches.  This category of art has become increasingly popular on eBay the last couple of years.  These can be displayed on their own, or with a tiny little easel (like the kind you can find in Michaels Arts & Crafts type stores) on a display shelf, or these beautiful gems can be elegantly matted and framed with perhaps a mat of 4 inches wide.  ACEOs also make wonderful gifts!

Zinnias & Daisy Riot Floral ACEO Oil Painting

3.5"x2.5" oil on fine canvas board

If you have followed my work for a long time, you know I'm a garden painter. From early spring to late fall I'm out there (with my hubby, the main garden guru) planting for painting! Every surface in my garden is a topic that I've painted. To check out what I'm up to, visit my web-site and blog!!! We had a great gardening year - which made it very inspiring for painting. The zinnias were outstanding this year, and the daisies just outdid themselves. These were among the last batches that I cut before our first big frost! And yes, I am indeed enjoying painting these small ACEOs... between painting breaks on a large one that I'm working on.
