Cinderella Pumpkins - Watercolor Sketchbook

I've got to admit, I love working on this particular watercolor paper in this particular sketchbook. It's handmade paper, from India, a Nujabi watercolor sketchbook...and suddenly they are becoming very difficult to find. I've got a couple on back-order, that I hope will actually come in. They are such a delight, nothing quite like them. A paper that is sturdy, yet flexable, gorgeous deckled edges, and it just drinks the color off your brush, 'just so'.  Of course finding things you love is like anything else, one man's passion is another's poison! Here's the two pages close up!
This variety of pumpkin we planted from seed in our front yard. They are truly shaped like Cinderella's coach! Just big and beautiful! These sketches were done over a week ago, but are particularly meaningful today, as the last pumpkin from the vine is cut and on our front porch! Yesterday we pulled up all the vines in that part of the yard...for today's project. Visit tomorrow's post for the news- what's going in the garden!

Thanks Julie. Well, I did find out today that it's not as sturdy as I thought it might be. It has such a good feel to it, but it is rather soft. If you use any techniques that involve any amount o rubbing, lifting, scrubbing (even in the slightest way...- I'm not heavy handed), you do brush up the surface of the paper in a not very nice way. I was trying some different techniques today, up until now, I've just kept it quite loose and 'sketchy', lay it on & be done with it. For that type of painting, it's great. I do think they might sell it in sheets at ASW: http://www.aswexpress.com/wholesale/paper/watercolor-sheets-and-blocks/nujabi.html

I love this paper too. You can buy it online from Jerry's Artarama...
www.jerrysartarama.com

Jerry's offers Nujabi Handmade Watercolor Paper in sheets and the journal. I just finished a project using metallic watercolor, regular watercolor, pen and ink... I can say this paper is not for someone who erases ... you can erase gently and I suggest the Vanish eraser if you must.
Your work looks wonderful. I think I might have to have one of the journals.

Thanks Styx! I got the journal from Jerry's online...but they have been on back order for months & months...Supposedly they've moved the shipment to January. (It was October when I went to order another one in August. Oh well....I think they've been 'discovered' for the fun they are! Yes, it does not take erasing or any rough handling, but the surface finish is so pretty (and I love the edges too!). I'll bet the metallics you used gave some really great effects on paper like this!!1
