Winter Whelk Gathering, Assateague

Good morning, and a happy Thursday to you!

"The essence of life is finding something you really love and then making the daily experience worthwhile."
- Denis Waitley

Today's painting is called "Winter Whelk Gathering, Assateague", 6"x6" oil on masonite artboard. Winter is the best season to look for shells along Assateague Beach, especially after a northeaster! This young windblown friend has an armful of large knobbed whelks.

Painters Tips:
I am still working on some small color studies for a larger painting. Small oil sketches are a quick and simple way to work out color/composition...a fun way of "thinking out loud" for painters. When working small, keep the shapes simple...sometimes this can be hard to do as it can be tempting to 'noodle' with these little paintings. Keep the brushes as big as possible - that will prevent too much noodling around with the paint!
